Open Source Dad
Custom-building an education that puts kids first
I’m Jeff, a teacher and father. After spending my life in classrooms, I could see that the old approach to education was built for mass production and was not oriented around the individual. When I started raising my son, I saw the need for an open-source template for education: something parents and children can adapt and make their own. Open Source Dad is my experiment in customizable learning, and my answer to the feeling that there must be a better way.
Work With Me
I help parents and caretakers shape learning around their child’s unique needs, personality, and quirks.
When we custom-build education ourselves, we can do things that are impossible in mass-produced education. Most children only ever learn what can be taught to large numbers. But some skills and competences are so delicate they can only be taught one child at a time.
Customized education lets us organize learning around a child’s deepest motives, so it feels empowered and self-directed. We can mix and match a wide range of tools to build real competence. We can prepare children for the skills of fundamental importance that standard education overlooks. We can put psychological, physical, and emotional health first, and tame our processes to serve them. We can help our children grow up feeling loved and complete.
Good pedagogy doesn’t come from big names or branding power. It comes from methods built with love and care for one child at a time.
